The objective of this study is to evaluate the ability of Superb Microvascular Imaging (SMI)-based microvascular flow assessment using intestinal ultrasound to discriminate endoscopic remission in patients with clinically quiescent ulcerative colitis. Specifically, the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curves of the SMI flow score and conventional color Doppler flow score will be compared to assess the utility of SMI.
Others
Assessment of diagnostic performance for identifying endoscopic remission
Comparison of the diagnostic performance of SMI and color Doppler flow scores for identifying endoscopic remission.
Assessment timing: Intestinal ultrasound will be performed within one month after colonoscopy.
1. Diagnostic performance of bowel wall thickness, IBUS-SAS, and SMI-IBUS-SAS for identifying endoscopic remission.
2. Correlations between intestinal ultrasound parameters (color Doppler flow score, SMI flow score, bowel wall thickness, IBUS-SAS, and SMI-IBUS-SAS) and endoscopic activity scores.
3. Interobserver agreement for color Doppler flow scores and SMI flow scores.
Assessment timing: Intestinal ultrasound will be performed within one month after colonoscopy.

This is a single-center prospective observational study involving 60 patients with ulcerative colitis in clinical remission. One intestinal ultrasound examination will be performed for research purposes within one month after colonoscopy scheduled as part of routine clinical care. B-mode ultrasound, conventional color Doppler, and Superb Microvascular Imaging (SMI) will be used to assess bowel wall characteristics and blood flow, and their associations with endoscopic activity scores will be evaluated. The primary outcome is the comparison of the ability of SMI and color Doppler flow scores to identify endoscopic remission. No therapeutic intervention or modification of routine clinical care will be performed.
