Assessment

Primary outcomes

Evaluate the degree of lower limb numbness after sitting on one's heels (seiza) for 30 minutes while wearing each sock material using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and compare the results among the materials.

Key secondary outcomes

Walking stability after seiza (traditional Japanese kneeling) wearing various sock materials is evaluated using the Timed Up and Go test (TUG). Additionally, ankle circumference and maximum calf circumference are measured to assess their relationship with the compression conditions caused by the sock materials.

Participants wear four types of socks made mainly of cotton, polyester, wool, or silk on separate days. In each condition, participants maintain the seiza sitting position for 30 minutes, followed by assessment of numbness and walking function.

Key inclusion criteria

Healthy adults aged 20 years or older.
Individuals with a foot size of 22-25 cm.
Individuals who are able to maintain the seiza sitting position for 30 minutes and participate in the subsequent walking assessment.

Key exclusion criteria

Individuals with numbness, pain, or sensory disturbance in the lower extremities.
Individuals with a history of diabetes mellitus, peripheral neuropathy, spinal disorders, orthopedic disorders, or other conditions that may affect lower-extremity sensation.
Individuals with abnormalities of lower-extremity circulation, such as peripheral arterial disease, deep vein thrombosis, or edema.
Individuals who are prone to severe pain or discomfort while sitting in the seiza position.
Individuals who are pregnant or may be pregnant.
