Objectives

Narrative objectives1

The purpose of this study is to compare lower-leg muscle activity (medial gastrocnemius, soleus, flexor hallucis longus, and tibialis anterior) between wall-supported and conventional single-leg calf raises using surface electromyography, and to clarify the effects of wall support on muscle activation.

Assessment

Primary outcomes

The primary outcome was the normalized electromyographic activity (%MVC) of the medial gastrocnemius, soleus, flexor hallucis longus, and tibialis anterior during each calf-raise condition

Key secondary outcomes

The ratio of electromyographic activity (%MVC) between the medial gastrocnemius and the flexor hallucis longus

Interventions/Control_1

Participants will perform 5 repetitions of single-leg heel-raise tasks under the following two conditions in a randomized order determined by a random number table
Wall-supported heel-raise condition: Participants perform maximum single-leg heel raises on their dominant leg while maintaining contact of their heel, buttocks, and back against a wall.
Conventional heel-raise condition: Participants face a wall and perform maximum single-leg heel raises on their dominant leg while lightly touching the wall with their fingertips solely for balance maintenance.
