NO
To compare the effect of refractive astigmatism on distance-corrected visual acuity (VA) at various viewing distances between eyes implanted with an enhanced monofocal intraocular lens (IOL) and eyes implanted with a standard monofocal IOL.
Efficacy
Exploratory
Pragmatic
Not applicable
Against-the-rule astigmatism was simulated by adding cylindrical lenses of 0, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, and 1.5 diopters (D). Distance-corrected visual acuity (VA) from far to near viewing distances was measured using an all-distance vision tester and compared between groups.

Male and Female
The major inclusion criterion was planned phacoemulsification with implantation of a single-piece hydrophobic acrylic IOL.
Exclusion criteria were: 1) corneal, macular, or optic nerve pathlogy, 2) opaque media other than cataract, 3) moderate to severe dry eye, 4) diabetes mellitus, 5) pseudoexfoliation syndrome, 6) previous ocular surgery or inflammation, 7) inability to complete examinations, and 8) refusal to participate.

All eyes were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to receive either an enhanced monofocal IOL (TECNIS Eyhance OptiBlue; Johnson & Johnson Vision) or a standard monofocal IOL (TECNIS monofocal OptiBlue, Johnson & Johnson Vision).
