The purpose of this study is to develop and evaluate a method for identifying unknown individuals using anatomical features obtained from computed tomography images. By comparing antemortem and postmortem CT images and analyzing individual variations in bone morphology and other anatomical structures, this study aims to establish objective imaging-based indicators that can be used for personal identification.
Efficacy
The primary outcome is the accuracy of distinguishing matched antemortem and postmortem CT images from unmatched images based on the three-dimensional spatial distribution of depressions on the inner table of the skull.
Identification performance will be evaluated using distance metrics between the extracted depression points, with the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) as the primary measure.

Male and Female
Cases for which both antemortem and postmortem head CT images of the same individual are available.
Cases in which the CT scan range includes the cranial regions required for evaluating inner-table skull depressions and anatomical reference points.
Cases with CT image quality sufficient for extraction of three-dimensional coordinates and image analysis.
Cases in which the antemortem and postmortem CT images can be confirmed to belong to the same individual based on clinical or forensic information.
Cases with marked morphological alterations in the target cranial region caused by surgery, trauma, fracture, tumor, infection, or other pathological conditions.
Cases in which inner-table skull depressions or anatomical reference points cannot be adequately evaluated because of motion, metal, or other imaging artifacts.
Cases in which the required analysis cannot be performed because of insufficient scan coverage or missing image data.
Cases with severe postmortem changes, cranial deformation, or damage that preclude reliable comparison with the antemortem CT images.
Cases otherwise considered unsuitable for image analysis by the principal investigator.
