Key inclusion criteria

Infant with high risk of food allergy onset: Infant whom either of parents has an allergic disease (Atopic dermatitis, Bronchial asthma, Food allergy, Allergic rhinitis, Allergic conjunctivitis) on going

Key exclusion criteria

Preterm baby
Birth weight less than 2300g
Severe neonatal asphyxia
Admission to NICU
Infant who has difficulty of ingesting breast milk after 2 days from birth
Decision of ineligibility by a physician
Mother is not able to ingest egg

Immediate-type egg allergy at 12 months: Maternal egg consumption (MEC) group 9.3% vs Maternal egg elimination (MEE group) 7.6% (Risk ratio 1.22; 95%CI 0.62-2.40)

Baseline Characteristics

380 who were enrolled in the RCT (182 male [47.9%] and 198 female [52.1%]), were divided to the MEC group (190 infants) and the MEE group (190 infants).

Participant flow

Of 414 included infants, 34 were excluded based on the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. The remaining 380 infants were enrolled in this RCT.

Adverse events

No adverse effects were obseved.

Outcome measures

The primary outcome was immediate-type egg allergy at 12 months, which was defined as both a positive sensitization to egg white- or OVM-sIgE 0.1 kUA/L or more and a positive test result of OFC or an episode of obvious immediate symptoms after egg ingestion.
