The objective of this study is to examine the effects of video-based interventions providing information related to climate change on intention to vote for politicians who promote climate change measures, voting-related knowledge, attitudes, and related psychosocial factors among adults in Japan.

Primary outcomes
Intention to vote for politicians who promote climate change measures immediately after viewing the video intervention. This outcome will be assessed using a questionnaire, and the change from pre-intervention to immediately post-intervention will be compared between groups.
Key secondary outcomes
The following outcomes will be assessed by questionnaire immediately after viewing the video intervention: knowledge related to voting for politicians who promote climate change measures; attitudes toward voting for such politicians; altruistic motivation; knowledge and attitudes regarding climate change; climate change skepticism; and intention to discuss voting for politicians who promote climate change measures with others. Changes from pre-intervention to immediately post-intervention will be compared between groups.

Control group: Participants will view once a video providing neutral information about climate observation and measurement. The video will explain topics such as the distinction between weather and climate, long-term meteorological observation, and observations using ground-based stations, ocean-based systems, and satellites. The video will not contain content intended to increase voting knowledge or activate altruistic motivation.

Voting-knowledge intervention group: Participants will view once a video designed to increase knowledge related to voting for politicians who promote climate change measures. The video will explain how publicly available information, such as election bulletins, official websites, and policy information, can be used to examine climate-related policies and positions, as well as how voting can be used to express policy preferences. The video will not endorse or encourage support for any specific candidate or political party.

Altruistic-motivation intervention group: Participants will view once a video designed to activate altruistic motivation, including consideration for others and broader societal welfare. The video will present ideas related to helping others and considering consequences for other people and society beyond one's own direct benefit. It will not provide voting-related knowledge.

Combined voting-knowledge and altruistic-motivation intervention group: Participants will view once a video targeting both voting knowledge and altruistic motivation. The video will include information on how to examine climate-related policies and positions using publicly available information, together with content encouraging consideration of consequences for others and society. It will not endorse or encourage support for any specific candidate or political party.
