This study aims to develop an AI assisted surgical support system that automatically recognizes microanatomy and surgical devices during operations. Using image data from laparoscopic and robot assisted surgeries, the system will be trained to identify microanatomical structures such as connective tissue, nerves, vessels, and blood based on the expertise and knowledge of experienced surgeons.

By training AI to recognize microanatomy, the system will be able to display the boundaries and extents of these structures directly on the surgical video. This enables surgeons to confirm anatomical structures and their margins in real time, thereby enhancing situational awareness and facilitating safer and smoother surgical procedures. In addition, the system is expected to promote understanding of microanatomy among trainees, medical students, and other healthcare professionals, contributing to more effective surgical education.
AI recognition accuracy for microanatomy in the surgical field (including connective tissue, vessels, nerves, pancreas, vas deferens, ureter, etc.) and for surgical devices. The target structures will be revised or expanded as the study progresses.

Patients who underwent laparoscopic or robot-assisted colorectal surgery at the Department of Gastroenterological, General, Breast and Endocrine Surgery, Sapporo Medical University Hospital; the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Osaka Police Hospital, Osaka International Medical & Science Center; and the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery, Osaka International Cancer Institute.
