Myokines suppress cognitive decline and several types of cancer, but its secretion requires high-intensity exercise that is often unfeasible for frail patients. This study aims to investigate whether low-intensity neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) can increase circulating myokine levels by inducing localized anaerobic metabolic stress, thereby serving as a "metabolic bypass" that avoids excessive systemic cardiovascular strain.

Serum SPARC concentration (change from pre- to post-intervention)
Blood lactate concentration, blood glucose concentration, and heart rate

NMES group: 30-min of lower-body NMES applied via belt electrodes at a frequency of 4 Hz. Intensity is set to the highest tolerable level, with a heart rate ceiling of 120% of VT1.
Control group: 30-min of passive rest in the supine position.
