Key inclusion criteria

Disease group Patients undergoing appendectomy for a diagnosis of acute appendicitis
Control group Patients diagnosed with inguinal hernia related conditions, undescended testis, umbilical hernia, pectus excavatum, or phimosis

Key exclusion criteria

Individuals with a history of appendicitis
Individuals undergoing elective appendectomy
Individuals who have used antibiotics or probiotics within the past month
Children with severe motor and intellectual disabilities
