Objectives

Narrative objectives1

To elucidate the causes of stroke and improve therapeutic techniques, we utilize in vitro analyses of blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid samples collected during routine clinical care in the stroke department, as well as tissue specimens excised or collected for therapeutic purposes or otherwise destined for disposal. In recent years, novel genes and hormones associated with cerebrovascular abnormalities have been reported. Through in vitro analyses (including those using primary cells) it may become possible to identify new pathological mechanisms and elucidate cerebral circulatory and metabolic responses at the cellular level during cerebral ischemia and hemorrhage.
