Objectives

Narrative objectives1

Accurate diagnosis of the depth of invasion is critical in determining appropriate treatment in early gastric cancer (EGC), especially when submucosal deep invasion (d-SM) is suspected. The diagnostic accuracy of conventional endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) remains limited, however, and the use of large volumes of de-aerated water carries a risk of aspiration pneumonia. This retrospective study evaluated the diagnostic performance and safety of gel-based EUS, a method that uses a transparent, viscous gel instead of water.
