The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of handwashing on the cognitive function of the older adults and its practicability as nursing care to stimulate cognitive function.

A basic study was conducted on 20 healthy older adults subjects (10 men and 10 women), all 20 of whom were asked to perform three types of handwashing using running water, running hot water, and rubbing disinfectant (gel), one method per day, for a total of three days, and comparative evaluations were made on autonomic nervous activity assessment index, working memory, and subjectivity.The results showed that handwashing stimulates cognitive function.
