Objectives

Narrative objectives1

To investigate whether posterior scapular tilt angle, thoracic kyphosis angle and shoulder joint muscle torque are associated with shoulder joint injuries.

Basic objectives2

Others

Basic objectives -Others

In addition to Objective 1, the Posterior Shoulder Endurance Test, the capsular dyskinesis test, the thoracic rotation angle and the shoulder joint range of motion, which have been reported as risk factors so far, will also be included and validated again.

Assessment

Primary outcomes

Measurement of scapular retroversion angle at 90 degree and 140 degree shoulder abduction, thoracic kyphosis angle at upper limb elevation, and muscle torque (manual muscle testing) for shoulder flexion, extension, abduction, external rotation and internal rotation.

Key secondary outcomes

The Posterior Shoulder Endurance Test, the scapular dyskinesis test, thoracic rotation angle and shoulder joint range of motion are measured. The questionnaire also asks whether the patient has a history of shoulder joint problems, the movements that cause pain and the degree of pain.

Results

Swimmers with shoulder arthralgia had significantly reduced Abd90IR and Flex90IR angles compared to swimmers without shoulder arthralgia. They also had significantly higher rates of Scapular Dyskinesis and significantly greater thoracic kyphosis angles in both upper limb raising postures.
