All participants were invited to a face-to-face interview to answer a standardized questionnaire. Baseline date of sociodemographic characteristics, health behaviors, condition of chronic diseases were considered as covariates. Demographic characteristics included age, gender, weight, education level. Health behaviors included smoking and drinking habits. Physical activity was assessed using the short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Cognitive assessment was completed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) by trained investigators. It includes 30 items, the score ranges from 0 to 30 points, with the higher scores indicating better cognitive performance. The use of MMSE to define MCI is consistent with previous studies, that is, The cut-off points used for cognitive impairment were as follow: less than 17 for illiterate people, less than 20 for people with primary school, and less than 24 for people with middle school or higher. The above cut-off points have been proved to be sensitive and effective in the diagnosis of MCI in Chinese elderly population. The daily activity ability was evaluated using the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living scale (IADL).
