Key exclusion criteria

1) designated as physical or mental disability certificate by the public administration at the beginning of the study
2) designated as a person requiring long-term care or support by the Long-Term Care Insurance Act at the beginning of the study
3) out-migrated or deceased person at the day of sending the mail

Baseline Characteristics

Community-dwelling older adults living Yanai city.

Participant flow

In 2014, 455 people to participate in the study, of which 85 participants completed a three-month exercise intervention and a nine-month exercise follow-up.
In 2015, 181 people participated in the study, with 101 taking part in a three-month exercise intervention and a nine-month exercise follow-up.

Adverse events

Nothing.

Outcome measures

physical performance (hand grip strength, timed up and go, five times chair stand, one leg standing with open eyes, aerobic capacity), cognitive functions (global cognition, executive function), olfaction and healthcare expenditure.
