Condition

Condition

Previous research by the applicant has revealed that the presence of others' eyes influences the perceived deliciousness of food appearance. However, this validation was conducted using only pictures of isolated eyes, not actual human faces. This study aims to use photographs of faces looking at the participants and faces turned away from them to investigate whether participants report feeling food to be more delicious in situations where they are being observed by others.

Assessment

Primary outcomes

Participants will be asked to rate food impressions displayed on a computer screen using a 9-point scale. Nine different food photos will be used, and each trial will involve presenting food photos 63 times (an average of 7 presentations per photo). The conditions will involve comparing situations where photos of individuals looking at the participant are displayed separately (Looking-At condition) versus situations where photos of individuals not looking at the participant are displayed (Not-Looking-At condition). While this study originally aims to investigate the influence of others' gaze on food preferences, during the recruitment stage, participants will be informed that the study is about "investigating changes in food preference due to food color." Therefore, this study involves a deception procedure.
