The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of child abuse experiences on the renewal bias of positive and negative beliefs as a function of social intimacy. Specifically, we apply a performance-based paradigm that assesses the ability to update positive and negative beliefs about others.
Others
Childhood maltreatment (CM) is associated with altered responses to social stimuli and interpersonal signals. A previous study conducted by a European research group found that those who experienced more CM preferred to maintain greater distance from both friends and strangers. This may suggest a general tendency to maintain social distance and a reduced ability to react differently in close and distant relationships.
