Many of the findings indicate that the collapse of balancing of work and family life has a negative impact on mental and physical health, career orientation, and job continuity. However, there were limited data on the factors and strategies that promote such a balance, and research gaps were identified. Further research is needed to identify actionable solutions.

All articles in the review were published between 2009 and 2023. The locations of the research were Japan (n = 10), Canada (n = 2), Switzerland (n = 2), Sweden (n = 1), and the United States (n = 1). The types of study design were quantitative (n = 13) and qualitative (n = 3).
An initial search of the literature using the defined search strategies resulted in 209 articles. After removing duplicates (n = 17), the remaining articles were screened for relevance and eligibility based on the inclusion/exclusion criteria. This resulted in 14 full-text articles being retained for inclusion in the review. A review of the reference lists from these articles revealed an additional two articles relevant to the review. Thus, the final scoping review consisted of 16 articles.
As this study was a literature review without intervention, no adverse events occurred.
We conducted a qualitative integration of the extracted descriptions about the balancing of work and family life among home health-care nurses. The key findings regarding the balancing of work and family life among home health-care nurses were categorized according to similarity. In addition, to gain a better understanding of the key findings from each country, the studies from Japan and other countries are shown separately.

This study is a scoping review of published literature and does not involve human participants. The Institutional Review Board confirmed that ethical approval was not required (2023.11.6).
This scoping review will be conducted in accordance with the reporting guidelines for scoping reviews (PRISMA-ScR). We will search the overseas literature through Scopus, Web of Science, Pubmed, CINAHL, and Japanese literature through Ichushi Web and CiNii Research. The search formula is given below. Two researchers will independently screen all articles identified in the search strategy (duplicates will be removed), extract data from the eligible articles. Disagreements between the researchers will resolve via discussion.
