The purpose of this study is to incorporate intergenerational exchanges with university students as a new method to promote social participation of elderly people who have stagnated due to the coronavirus, and to clarify the effects of psychological aspects such as improving happiness and self-efficacy in the elderly. Maintaining mental health is expected to increase social participation, eliminate isolation, and prevent frailty as a result.

Intervention group: 58 participants, mean age 85.9 years, 13 men (22.4%)
Control group: 78 participants, mean age 84.0 years, 30 men (37.5%)
Participants were evenly distributed to the intervention and control groups.
The intervention group first completed a baseline survey, after which they interacted with university student volunteers for about 1 h once a month for 6 months.
A second survey was conducted after competing all six interventions. In addition, to obtain subjective results that are difficult to measure with quantitative surveys, four people who participated in the entire program and cooperated with the survey were interviewed.
The control group continued their usual daily lives after completing the baseline survey. The second survey was conducted simultaneously with the intervention group's second survey.
