I. male or female, 18 years of age or older
II. Able to give written informed consent
III. no history or current treatment for mental illness
Key exclusion criteria
I. taking any medications, including supplements
II. pregnant or lactating
III. are undergoing treatment for anemia
IV. smoker
V. have an allergy to metals

This study was originally registered as an interventional study involving acupuncture (initial registration: July 2023). Following a revision of the research protocol and ethical considerations, the design was changed to a non-interventional observational study (modification: August 2023). The current study investigates taste thresholds and their associations with age, sex, disease status, and lifestyle factors. No therapeutic or pharmacological intervention is conducted.
