Results

57 traner(54 males and 3 females)responded(38%).The most common adverse events of acupuncture were internal bleeding in 52(91.2%),microbleeding in 42(73.7%),and pain during needling in 43(75.4%).As for adverse events of moxibustion 11(19.3%)were unintentional burns and 6 (10.5%) were suppuration of moxibustion scars.Have you ever experienced any problems in athletes' competitive activities due to acupuncture and moxibustion treatment? Yes;7(12.3%), No;45(78.9%),Don't know;5(8.8%).

The responses were obtained through a mailing list and a web-based questionnaire.

Outcome measures

The survey items included age, gender, number of years of clinical practice, details of adverse events caused by acupuncture and moxibustion treatment, whether or not there were any problems with athletic activities, and the athletes' impressions immediately after the acupuncture treatment.
