Narrative objectives1

To examine the influence of total participation time in badminton [high-playing times (HPT) and low-playing times (LPT)] on the cardiometabolic markers (blood glucose, triglycerides, creatinine, uric acid, high density lipoprotein, total cholesterol concentration).


To examine the influence of total participation time in badminton [high-playing times (HPT) and low-playing times (LPT)] on physiological indices (resting blood pressure and body composition) in elderly recreational badminton players.

Resting blood pressure (systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and mean arterial pressure)

Key inclusion criteria

1) Physically healthy no contraindication to Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PAR-Q)

2) Men over age of 50 or women after six-months of menopause at the point of recruitment

3) Regular badminton-playing experience (at least once a week with no less than 30 minutes of weekly playing time

4) Free from injury

5) No reported history of or present metabolic, cardiovascular or pulmonary diseases including cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus and chronic renal failure

6) Female participants free of taking hormone replacement therapy for at least one year prior to the data collection

Key exclusion criteria

1) Smokers.

2) Individuals with a history of regularly engaging in other types of sports (at least once a week).

3) Female participants which yet to reach postmenstrual phase.

4) Female participants taking hormone replacement therapy.

5) Consume dietary supplements (excluding macronutrients) or medications within the past 4 weeks prior to investigation

6) Actively on suppositories including over-the-counter pharmaceutical substances.

7) Recipients of blood transfusion within 30 days prior to screening.

8) Receivers of any investigational research agent.
