Key inclusion criteria	Studies are included if they reported primary research, described or evaluated the stigma and social discrimination related to acute infectious disease outbreaks and pandemics towards healthcare workers. Quantitative designs are included to assess the effect of stigma and social discrimination on the mental health of healthcare workers. Qualitative designs are included to provide context.
Key exclusion criteria	Exclusion criteria include letters to the editor, commentaries, editorials, opinions, reviews, and non-English literature. Additionally, studies of HIV, leprosy and tuberculosis are also excluded.

A systematic search is conducted in the following databases: PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PsycINFO, and Embase. No study design restrictions are applied. Studies are identified using search terms for "stigma" or "social discrimination" combined with terms for "COVID-19", "SARS", "MERS", "Influenza", "Ebola", "Outbreak", "Epidemic", "Pandemic", "Virus", and "Infections"
