Narrative objectives1 The purpose of this systematic review is to examine the association between energy drink intake in adolescence and later substance use focusing on prospective cohort studies.

P: Adolescents as individuals in the 10-19 years age group

E: Intake of Energy drink which defines caffeinated drink such as Red Bull and Monster Energy.

Results 
Results: Five studies met the eligibility criteria. ED consumption was positively and significantly associated with the initiation of substance use in adolescence involving alcohol, tobacco, cannabis, and prescription stimulants and analgesics. However, the overall risk of bias in the included studies was severe.
