Cachexia occasionally causes muscle atrophy. This atrophy is mediated by oxidative stress induced with proinflammatory cytokines. Recently polyphenols derived from plants have been reported to have several beneficial effects on cachexia. Wakame contains a lot of polyphenol, especially morin. In this study we will examined anti-muscle atrophy actions of polyphenol-enriched Wakame extracts on patients with cachexia.
