Narrative objectives1
Psychotropic drugs are sometimes prescribed when elderly patients visit primary care physician for their psychiatric or behavioral problem. However these drugs sometimes cause deterioration in symptoms, or in cognitive or physical function. Then the patients are referred to a psychiatry hospital demanding expert treatment. In these cases, symptoms could be improved or cognitive or physical functions could be restored after tapering or discontinuation of the causal drugs. The study aims to clarify relationships between inappropriate use of psychotropic drugs and deterioration in psychiatric symptoms, cognitive and physical function in elderly patients visiting our psychiatry hospital.

Hospitalized elderly patients who have been already prescribed with psychotropic drugs at the time of admission
Patients can be followed or observed according to the study protocol
Patients or their caregivers can provide necessary information for the study
Key exclusion criteria
Patients with severe or unstable physical disease

Symptoms and clnical characteristics are evaluated in elderly patients with psychiatric symptoms and decline of cognitive or physical finction at their first vist to our hospital, who have been already prescribed with psychotropic drugs. Negative effect of psychotropic drugs on psychiatric symptoms, and cognitice and physical function is evaluated after tapering or discontinuation of the causal drugs.
