自殺関連行動の9割に何らかの精神障害が関与している（ACTION-J，Kawanishiら，2014）が、東京における報告（竹田, 2016）では、自殺に至った妊婦の61％、褥婦の39％で「病名ない」と調査されており、周産期メンタルヘルス不調を生前に、十分に検出できていないことがわかる。

While mental disorders are implicated in 90% of suicide-related behaviors (ACTION-J, Kawanishi et al., 2014), a report from Tokyo (Takeda, 2016) found that 61% of pregnant women and 39% of postpartum women who died by suicide had a diagnosis of "Not available" indicating that perinatal mental health issues are not being adequately detected prior to death.

周産期メンタルヘルス不調の検出には質問紙を主とする研究は多く、早期発見・介入・自殺の予防に関する研究やエビデンスは世界的に限定的である。本研究は、助産師を対象とした、周産期メンタルヘルス不調の早期発見・早期介入、及び自殺予防のための実践に効果的なゲートキーパー研修プログラムを開発することを目的とする。

While many studies on the detection of perinatal mental health distress rely primarily on questionnaires, research and evidence regarding early detection, intervention, and suicide prevention remain limited worldwide. The aim of this study is to develop an effective gatekeeper training program for midwives to facilitate the early detection and intervention of perinatal mental health distress and to support suicide prevention practices.
