喉頭摘出術を施行された患者は、永久気管孔経由で呼吸をするので鼻腔への気流が失われ、嗅粘膜ににおい分子が到達せず、においを感じることができない。我々の研究グループでは、呼気・吸気に同期させて鼻孔から嗅覚刺激を提示できる嗅覚提示装置を用いた研究を行っている。これを発展させて、鼻腔内の気流を制御するデバイスを開発し、その使用により喉頭摘出患者が嗅覚を取り戻せるかを確認する。

Patients who have undergone laryngectomy breathe through a permanent tracheostomy, resulting in the loss of airflow to the nasal cavity. As a result, odor molecules cannot reach the olfactory mucosa, and the patient is unable to perceive odors. Our research group is conducting studies using an olfactory presentation device that can deliver olfactory stimuli synchronized with exhalation and inhalation through the nostrils. We aim to develop a device that controls airflow within the nasal cavity and verify whether laryngectomy patients can regain their sense of smell through its use.

喉頭摘出術を施された患者を対象とする鼻腔内気流制御実験について、鼻腔内の気流を制御する装置により、鼻孔に数mmから数cm挿入したチューブから空気を吸い上げることで、口腔内に含んだにおいを発する食品（飴やグミキャンディなど）のにおいを鼻腔に送る（図１）。チューブにはパッキンをつけて空気の流量のロスを防いでもよい。本装置を用いて嗅覚知覚の強度やカテゴリ、印象など評価を行う。また、日常の食事の美味しさが向上可能かも問う。
データは心理物理学的測定法と内観報告から得る。実験は、研究担当者と1対1で実施され、プライバシーが確保される部屋にて行う。実験に要する時間は60分程度である。

Nasal airflow control experiment in laryngectomy patients Using a device that controls nasal airflow, air is drawn through a tube inserted into the nostrils by several millimeters to several centimeters, and the odor of food (such as candy or gummy candies) containing odor in the oral cavity is delivered to the nasal cavity (Figure 1). A seal can be attached to the tube to prevent airflow loss. Using this device, we will evaluate the intensity, category, and impression of olfactory perception. Additionally, we will investigate whether the perceived deliciousness of daily meals can be improved.
Data will be obtained through psychophysical measurement methods and subjective reports. The experiment will be conducted one-on-one with the researcher in a private room. The experiment will take approximately 60 minutes.

3） 本研究への参加にあたり十分なインフォームド・コンセントの後に、患者本人の自由意思による文書同意が得られている
