本研究では、自転車による交通外傷で救急外来を受診した成人において、飲酒が重症度に与える影響を検討する多施設前向き研究を日本国内で施行する。

This multicenter prospective study will be conducted in Japan to examine the effect of alcohol consumption on severity of injury in adults presenting to the emergency department with traffic injuries caused by bicycling.

自転車事故における飲酒運転の実態を明らかにする。それに加えて、自転車事故において飲酒が外傷の重症度や、救急外来滞在時間や救急受診時の医療費など医療経済的な面に与える影響を検討することで新規の知見を開拓ることを目的とする。

We will clarify the actual situation of drunk driving in bicycle accidents. In addition, we aim to develop new knowledge by examining the effects of alcohol consumption on the severity of injuries and medical economic aspects of bicycle accidents, such as time spent in the emergency room and medical expenses incurred during emergency visits.

道路交通法では飲酒時の自転車運転は規制されているが、自動車やバイクの運転に比べて危険性の認識が甘い。そのため自転車の飲酒運転に関する正確な実態も分かっておらず、自転車事故の重症度に飲酒が与える影響に関する研究は未だ乏しい。今回の多施設共同前向き研究による検証を行うことにより、飲酒時の自転車運転の危険性の啓蒙、さらには罰則強化の検討など政策決定に貢献することが期待される。

Although the Road Traffic Law regulates the riding of bicycles while intoxicated, the dangers are less well known than for driving cars and motorcycles. As a result, the exact reality of drunk driving on bicycles is not yet known, and research on the effects of alcohol consumption on the severity of bicycle accidents is still scarce. This multicenter prospective study is expected to contribute to policy making by educating the public about the dangers of bicycling while intoxicated, and even considering stricter penalties.
