本研究の目的は，わが国の女性における生活習慣，保健医療習慣，生殖関連機能事象の変化，またそれらと各種疾患の発生との関連を前向きに長期に追跡観察することにより，女性のすべてのライフステージにおけるquality of lifeの維持・向上のために，女性に特有な心身にまつわる疾患についてのライフコース疫学的エビデンスを創出することにある。先行して実施されているJNHS-IIと目的を同じとしている。

開始後10年間の第1期フォローアップ調査では，1962年～1999生まれの薬剤師資格を持つ女性（2023年時点：24歳～60歳）において，OC・LEPの長期使用における健康影響の評価，不妊症のリスク因子や妊孕性維持に有用となる生活保健習慣の探索，といった当該世代での健康問題の解決に寄与する知見を得ることを主たる目的とする。
第2期フォローアップ調査では、生活習慣，生殖機能関連事象，身体状況の調査項目について，ベースライン調査時からの変化をたずねるとともに，疾患発症との関連を調査する。

The purpose of the 1st follow-up period (10 years) is obtaining knowledge about fertility preservation, and investigate the affect for long-term use of OC / LEP .
We will investigate the relationship about occurence of various diseases and the changes of lifestyle habits, helath care habits, and reproductive events, over the 2nd follow-up period and more.

自記式調査票によるベースライン調査を行い，その後フォローアップ調査（原則として2年に一度，郵送調査とWebブラウザを使用した調査を併用予定）を前向きに継続的に行い，生殖機能関連事象の発生や各種疾患の発症を把握する。定期フォローアップ調査では，自記式調査票を，コホート対象者あてに郵送する．対象者は，みずから調査票に記入し，返信用封筒に密封した記入済み調査票を，対象者各自が群馬大学内のJPHS研究事務局まで郵便にて返送する．また，フォローアップ期間中には，調査の結果，女性の健康についての疫学研究・医学研究の最近の知見について，ニュースレターを継続的に毎年発行し，コホート対象者に郵送する。
