1996年1月から 2022年9月までの期間（「抗菌薬スチュワードシップ」の概念がある期間）に、抗菌薬スチュワードシップとしてグラム染色を利用した研究を特定するために、PubMedとWeb of Scienceを用いて文献検索を行う。検索語は以下の通り：グラムまたはグラム染色、初期抗菌薬または抗菌薬投与、抗菌薬選択、抗菌薬治療、抗菌薬スチュワードシップ、病原体を標的とした治療、狭域抗菌薬、経験的な抗菌薬投与、ガイドライン、ゴールドスタンダード、血液培養、尿培養。さらに、関連記事の参考文献リストを手動で検索する。
抗菌薬選択に対するグラム染色の影響を評価した研究論文を含めるが、総説、会議録、非英語論文は除外する。
2名の研究者が独立してタイトル・アブストラクトから文献をスクリーニングし、抽出された研究論文の全文レビューが行う。文献選定に関する意見の相違は、第3の研究者との話し合いによって解決する。
このシステマティック文献レビューは、Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysiss (PRISMA) 方法論に従う。

Systematic searches of PubMed and Web of Science will be performed to identify studies that utilized Gram's stain as antimicrobial stewardship techniques between the period January 1996 and September 2022, during which there was a concept of "antimicrobial stewardship." We will search terms as follows: Gram or Gram's stain; initial antibiotic or antimicrobial administration, agent, choice, drug, selection, therapy, or treatment; antibiotic or antimicrobial stewardship; pathogen-targeted therapy or treatment; narrow or narrower-spectrum agent, antibiotic, or antimicrobial; broad-spectrum agent, antibiotic, or antimicrobial; empiric or empirical administration, therapy, treatment, selection, or use; guideline; gold standard; blood or urine culture. In addition, we will conduct a manual search of the reference lists of relevant articles.
Studies which assessed an impact of Gram's stain on antimicrobial selection, and which had 2 or more defined outcomes of interest including antimicrobial consumption, de-escalation or discontinuation, mortality, hospital length of stay, cost-effectiveness, and other outcomes such as incidence of infection, clinical failure, and adverse events will be included. Review articles, conference abstracts, and non-English-language articles will be excluded.
Relevant studies will be identified based on a title and abstract screening done independently by 2 researchers, followed by a full-text review of the shortlisted studies. Any disagreements on inclusion will be resolved by discussion with a third researcher.
This systematic literature review will follow the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) methodology.
