BETA CELL FUNCTION OR INSULIN SECRETION (HOMA B)
The amount of glucose cleared from the blood in response to a dose of insulin. A score of less than 100 defined reduced B cell function.

INSULIN RESISTANCE (HOMA IR)
Defined as a condition when normal amount of insulin in body fails to produce the desired response . A score of greater than or equal to 2.0 defined IR.

INSULIN SENSITIVITY
Insulin sensitivity calculate by using the following formula is IS equal to 1 per IR (Normal is less than 3.0)

VITAMIN D STATUS
Vitamin D status was defined as SUFFICIENT with level of vitamin D greater than 30ng per ml and DEFICIENT with level of serum 25 (OH) vit D less than or equal to 30ng per ml.

To examine the effect of vitamin D supplementation on glucose homeostasis among Type 2 Diabetic patients by comparing treatment and control group both at baseline and end line

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES (FOR BOTH TREATMENT AND CONTROL GROUP)
1. Assessment of the socio-demographic characteristics

2. Assessment of nutritional status with anthropometric parameters.

3. Advising, monitoring and controlling the diabetes diet and physical activity.

4. Analyzing different biochemical profile -
- Vitamin D
- Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG)
- Fasting blood insulin (FBI)
- Derived parameter Homeostatic model assessment (HOMA) for beta-cell function, Insulin sensitivity (IS) and insulin resistance (IR)
- HbA1c (Glycated Haemoglobin A1C)
- Serum calcium
- C-reactive protein (CRP)
- MDA (malondialdehyde) and
- SOD (Superoxide dismutase)

5. To find out the influence of vitamin D on
- Fasting blood Insulin (FBI) level
- Fasting blood glucose (FBG) level
- Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c or A1c) level
- Stress-marker like Malondialdehyde (MDA) and Super-oxide Dismutase level (SOD)
- Serum Calcium and
- Inflammatory-marker like C-reactive protein (CRP) level
