古典的プリオン病では発症から3ヶ月程度で急速に悪化し無動無言に至るために、発症後超早期での迅速な診断が必須である。これまでの研究により、プリオン病の補助診断法としてMRI拡散強調画像と髄液バイオマーカー検査の有用性が明らかになった。髄液検査では診断に有効な診断法ではあるが。症例によっては髄液検査や画像検査ができない症例があり、より安全な生体材料で診断する方法が求められている。近年我々は頭皮及び毛根にもプリオン活性が存在していることが証明した。本研究ではプリオン病を含む急速進行性認知症患者及び健常人におけるの髪の毛及びその毛根からのプリオン活性・シヌクレイン活性があるがどうか明らかにすることを本研究の目的とする。

Since classical prion diseases rapidly deteriorate and become immobile and mute within about three months of onset, prompt diagnosis at a very early stage after onset is essential. Previous studies have demonstrated the usefulness of MRI diffusion-weighted imaging and CSF biomarker testing as adjunctive diagnostic methods for prion diseases. Although spinal fluid testing is a valid diagnostic tool. However, in some cases, spinal fluid testing and imaging are not available, and there is a need for a safer method of diagnosis using biological materials. Recently, we have demonstrated that prion activity is also present in the scalp and hair follicles. The purpose of this study is to clarify whether prion and synuclein activities are present in hairs and their roots in patients with rapidly progressive dementia, including prion diseases, and in healthy individuals.

①各研究施設の機関長の許可日～2023年03月31日の間に各研究大学脳神経内科を受診している患者
②　対象疾患：プリオン病（クロイツフェルト・ヤコブ病(CJD) 、ゲルストマン・ストロイスラー・シャインカー症候群(GSS)、致死性家族性不眠症(FFI)）、てんかん、アルツハイマー型認知症を含め神経変性疾患）、急速進行性認知症を呈する疾患、健常者
③本研究への参加にあたり十分な説明を受けた後、十分な理解の上、研究対象者本人(または代諾者)の自由意思による文書同意が得られた患者

(1) Patients visiting the Department of Neurology at each research university between the date of approval by the institutional director of each research center and March 31, 2023.
(2) Target diseases: Prion diseases (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), Gerstmann-Streicher-Scheinker syndrome (GSS), fatal familial insomnia (FFI)), epilepsy, neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease, rapidly progressive dementia, and healthy subjects
(3) Patients who have been fully informed about the participation in this study and who have given their (or their surrogate's) free written consent based on their full understanding of the study.
