小児科医は、RSウイルス感染症を頻度が高く、重症度も高いと認識。迅速診断キットに満足するも、重症患者の治療や重症化リスクのある小児の予防に改善が必要と考える。保護者や家族は不安やストレスを感じ、負担も大きい。医療従事者も不安や負担を抱える。RSウイルス感染症の流行期に医療機関のスタッフの負担は大きい。

RSV infection is a common and severe pediatric illness. While rapid diagnostic kits are satisfactory, there is room for improvement in treating severe cases and preventing the infection in high-risk children. Caregivers and families face substantial anxiety and stress, resulting in significant economic and physical burdens. Healthcare providers are concerned about patient deterioration and the associated economic and occupational burdens. The RSV season poses a significant challenge for healthcare staff.

メイン調査は2022年11月27日から2022年12月5日で実施された。対象医師300名の背景は、男性医師が全体の81.0%であり、平均年齢は49.3歳（標準偏差12.3）、平均経験年数は22.9年（標準偏差10.9）であった。また、日本小児科学会の専門医は243名（81.0%）であり、日本小児感染症学会の認定医は21名（7.0%）であった。総合病院で主に勤務している医師は154名（51.3%）であり、子供の有無については83名（27.7%）が子供がいないか回答した。子供を持つ医師のうち、7～12歳の子供が64名（21.3%）、13～15歳の子供が34名（11.3%）、16歳以上の子供が106名（35.3%）いると回答した。また、子供を持つ医師のうち、子供がRSウイルスに感染した経験がないと回答したのは108名（49.8%）であった。

The main survey was conducted from November 27, 2022, to December 5, 2022. Table 1 presents the background of the 300 participating physicians. Among them, 81.0% were male, with a mean age (standard deviation, SD) of 49.3 (12.3) years and a mean experience of 22.9 (10.9) years. A total of 243 (81.0%) were board-certified pediatricians by the Japan Pediatric Society, while 21 (7.0%) were certified by the Japanese Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Over half, 154 (51.3%), worked primarily in general hospitals. Among the physicians, 83 (27.7%) either had no children or preferred not to answer. Of the physicians with children, 64 (21.3%), 34 (11.3%), and 106 (35.3%) reported having children aged 7-12 years, 13-15 years, and 16 years or older, respectively. Furthermore, out of the physicians with children, 108 (49.8%) reported no previous experience of their children being infected with RS virus.

調査対象は、日本の小児科医で、過去1年間に3人以上のRSウイルス感染症患者の治療経験があり、外来、入院、または救急科で現在診療を行っている者とした。定性的インタビューの対象はPDリサーチ株式会社のパネルから募集し、パイロット調査およびメイン調査の対象は株式会社日経BPのパネルから募集された。パイロット調査に参加した医師はメイン調査から除外された。株式会社日経BPのパネルには、市場調査や臨床医の活動に関連する調査が幅広く行われており、2021年7月時点で約13万人の医師が登録されており、そのうち約9,500人が小児科医であった。

Participants were Japanese pediatricians who had treated three or more patients with RS virus infection in the past year and currently provided medical care in outpatient clinics, inpatient settings, or emergency departments. The qualitative interviews were conducted with participants recruited from PD Research Inc.'s panel, while participants for the pilot and main surveys were recruited from Nikkei Business Publications Inc.'s panel through Rakuten Insight Inc. Physicians who participated in the pilot survey were excluded from the main survey. Nikkei Business Publications Inc.'s panel is widely used for market research and surveys related to clinical activities, with approximately 130,000 registered physicians as of July 2021, including approximately 9,500 pediatricians.
