In the area of cognitive neuroscience research, social problems in ASD have been found to be associated with impaired executive functions, working memory and long-term memory.Although as much of memory research on ASD are based on laboratory studies, there have been indicated to have low ecological validity. Therefore, the present study was designed to examine whether there is a difference in everyday memory functions between the adults with ASD and healthy controls. To verify everyday memory, the Rivermead Behavioral Memory Test was to be used.

We clarify whether there are differences in everyday memory functions and cognitive styles based on the E-S model between adults with ASD and healthy controls. In addition, we examine the relationship between everyday memory and cognitive styles. To examine everyday memory, we used the Rivermead Behavioral Memory Test and questionnaires and to verify cognitive styles, we used several questionnaires (Empathizing Quotient (EQ) and Systemizing Quotient (SQ)).

The purpose of this study is to examine memory functions and cognitive styles in the individuals with ASD, and to compare the groups, which are the ASD group and healthy control group. The study method differs depending on the groups. In the before section of the study, the participants contact us based on the on the recruiting poster, we contact the participant via email, explain the purpose of the study. At the beginning of the study (the first session), we again explain the purpose and outline of the present study through the study instruction. We required teach-back on the purpose of the study, confirm the consent ability of the participants. If the participant does not understand the explanation of the study, we judged them incapable of consenting, and we would not offer participation of the present study. For the participants with FSIQ>79, we explain the purpose and outline of the study via e-mail with the study description form (for the questionnaires and neuropsychological tests). At the beginning of the study (the second session), we again explain the purpose of the study through the study instructions - the questionnaires and neuropsychological tests. the questionnaires and neuropsychological tests are administered to those who have consented in writing to participate in the study.
